ABOUT ME
It was at the beginning of my college career when my doctor informed me that I was on the path to becoming prediabetic. I was alarmed and frustrated at the mere thought of becoming prediabetic, especially as I considered myself very young. He offered me generic advice on how to fix this condition; I distinctly remember him telling me to “add more fruits and vegetables” to my diet and I left his office feeling puzzled and alone on the journey back to better health.
When I got home, I searched online for different diets. I slogged through the mixed information, as I looked for safe and feasible solutions. I tried the ketogenic diet and intermittent fasting, but these weren’t long-term solutions. It was then I realized that the internet is rife with misinformation and exaggerations of what a healthy diet should be; unfortunately, this left me with more questions than answers. My curiosity led me to shadow three outpatient registered dietitians at Franklin Square Hospital. Step-by-step, these dietitians created realistic, functional, and individualized meal plans for each patient. This experience, as well as my volunteer and work experiences while attending the University of Maryland (UMD), helped me realize that I want a career in dietetics. I want to provide the tools to help people who want to eat better, but don’t know where to start or know which information is accurate. After graduating from University of Maryland, I completed my dietetic internship with Aramark Distance Dietetic Internship at the Baltimore site.
