The University of Maryland Campus Pantry’s mission is to alleviate food hardship among UMD-College Park students, faculty and staff by providing emergency food to University of Maryland College Park students, faculty, and staff in need.
I interned at the campus pantry for a year and it was a humbling experience that helped me grow as a nutrition professional. While at the pantry I;
Collaborated with the farmers’ market on campus to provide clients with fruits, vegetables, and bread
Collaborated with a team to drafted and attained a sustainability grant for $500 provided by Students’ Facilities Fund to buy reusable bags for campus pantry clients
Work with University chef and College Park farmers’ market manager to create recipe cards distributed to campus pantry clients
HEALTHY EATING DISCOVERY CAMP
The Healthy Eating Discovery Summer Camp is an annual summer camp hosted by the University of Maryland Dietetics department. It has since had 55 students from 3rd to 8th grade. The camp is focuses on fun and interactive activities to adopt healthy eating habits while learning basic cooking skills, participating in cooking challenges, planning a healthy meal, budgeting, and reviewing basic nutrition and science behind food and health. I was a camp counselor for two summers. It was an amazing experience to work with children, educate and make nutrition fun and creative. While at the camp I;
Collaborated with the Director of the Dietetics Program, the founder of the Healthy Eating Discovery Camp
Worked as part of the team of 13 that planned and implemented the daily activities of the camp and recruited camp members
Led discussions about the role of food in the body, the importance of exercise, & consumption of nutrient-dense foods to 3rd-8th graders
Demonstrated how to plan a healthy meal through MyPlate
Taught lessons on how to cook, where food comes from, and how to read a nutrition label
Medically trained to provide medication and how to use the EpiPen properly

GLOBAL POVERTY ADVISORY BOARD
The Global Poverty minor develops an awareness and understanding of the dimensions of global poverty, its causes and consequences, and the scope of policies aimed at poverty alleviation. As part of the Global Poverty Advisory Board I;
Assisted professors in making the Global Poverty Minor easier for students to complete
Presented to students in class about the Global Poverty minor and its importance in society today
Co-moderated and hosted the 2nd Annual Nonprofit Panel to demonstrate to students the different nonprofit organizations they could work for after graduation
